Admissions Info

Undergraduate

For applicants offering the new Polish Matura we would normally ask for marks between 70 and 90 per cent in four subjects at extended level. Applicants offering this qualification may also be required to sit the LSE Entrance Exam.

The Entrance Examination is one three-hour paper of a general nature requiring no special preparation, held in March of each year. It consists of essays on general discussion topics, a summary of an English language text and tests of mathematical understanding. The Examination may be sat overseas in any approved examination centre. Applicants required to sit the Examination are contacted by the Undergraduate Admissions Office.

Students studying for the International Baccalaureate are able to apply for direct entry to the first year of undergraduate study and would normally be expected to achieve a points total of around 36 with 666 at the higher level, although the exact requirement differs for individual programmes. For those following the European Baccalaureate, we would normally ask for an average of 8 or 8.5 with specific marks in certain subjects, i.e. 8 overall plus an 8 in English and an 8.5 in Mathematics.

In addition to the general entry requirements, applicants should also refer to the individual undergraduate degree programme descriptions in the Undergraduate Prospectus for specific course requirements. Most degrees also require a GCSE grade C or better in Mathematics (or equivalent). Students would be expected to understand basic techniques in arithmetic, algebra and geometry and to be able to apply them. Please note, students whose first language is not English may be required to provide evidence of proficiency; please refer to the Undergraduate Prospectus for more information.

Information about how to apply can be found on the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) website.

We must stress that although many overseas qualifications meet the minimum requirements for eligibility, this does not guarantee admission as there is intense competition for places.

Graduate School

To be considered for admission to the Graduate School, we would require the Magistr or master's degree or the bachelors degree started after 2006, with B/4+/Better than good.

This is our general minimum requirement; however, some programmes have specific requirements in terms of degree result required and subject background. Please see the Graduate Prospectus for specific course requirements and information about the application process.

Please note, if English is not your first language and was not the language of instruction for your entire first degree then you will need to submit an English test score; please refer to the Graduate Prospectus for more information.

Financial Aid

LSE annually awards over £10 million in scholarships and bursaries to its students, with funding available from many different sources. Detailed information about financial aid and scholarships is provided for both undergraduate and graduate applicants, along with more general information on the Financial Support Office web site.
